A low-energy infill dwelling in London and a pink coastal residence in East Sussex are among 20 homes vying to win RIBA‘s House of the Year for 2022.
Bestowed annually by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), the House of the Year prize celebrates the best one-off architect-designed houses or extensions in the UK.
Innovate UK is offering up to £25 million in loans to micro, small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs). Loans are for highly innovative late stage research and development (R&D) projects with the best potential for the future. There should be a clear route to commercialisation and economic impact. The Associate Parliamentary Design and Innovation Group, a forum for open debate between Parliament and the UK’s design and innovation communities, has published its newest term paper. APDIG proposes that design is suffering from a PR problem, which leaves it misunderstood and undervalued by government, underused by business, and misrepresented in the media. Read more

Jonathan Mitchener, Lead Technologist – ICT at the Technology Strategy Board, introduces the official competition briefing brochure for the £4.5m Data Exploration call which opens on 6th January. The competition focuses on innovations in the data exploration techniques of analytics, modelling and visualisation, and a briefing event (to be webcast and stored for replay) will be held in London on 7th January. Two new Technology Strategy Board competitions related to the creative industries will be opening in spring 2017. Location Based Services is a £4m competition to help businesses to engage with their customers in a ‘here and now’ context. Valuing and Pricing Digital Assets will offer £2.5m for “developing ways to agree value and price” in digital transactions. Read more
